So, of course... that means hot chocolate is a good idea. It's never a bad idea, but it seems like an especially good one now. She can deal with the cold if need be (it's unpleasant, but its not like it's going to kill her), but some of the others in the castle...
Well, Eichi in particular comes to mind. How is he handling this? So when she makes some hot cocoa down in the kitchens, she pours it into two stone goblets (putting a hot drink into a wine glass seems like a bad idea) and seeks him out.
Eventually she tracks him down, wherever it is that Eichi is hanging out.]
Eichi? [She clears her throat and offers him a goblet.] Do you like hot chocolate? I thought it might help you warm up.
[He's sitting in the common room of his dorms, wrapped in so many layers and still looking like a limb might snap off if someone touches it. He reaches out eagerly to take the goblet with both hands.]
Hot chocolate... It's not something that I have very often, but it sounds delicious right now. Thank you for thinking of me. [He gestures the spot next to him. Sit!!]
work saved you from me for a little while but now i am back to destroy
[Sit she does, settling herself carefully before looking at him over the rim of her goblet.]
You look cozy.
[Are all those layers just of his own design, or does he have others looking out for him? Reyna hopes it's the latter - Eichi doesn't seem like the type to just lay down and accept that he might make an easy target, but it seems disgustingly unfair for him to have a disadvantage like an illness in a situation like this.
[The layers start out as all his own, and gradually, people add on to help when they can. Dazai's coat, for example.
He smiles warmly at her, despite the weather, and though he looks considerably ill, his smile is still unwavering right now.]
I'm quite well, all things considered. What of yourself? There's been so much happening in the past day or two alone. This cold weather, and the wishing well... It seems everyone has trouble of their own.
[She's much better off than she could be. She's in good health! She hasn't broken any limbs! She hasn't frozen to death!
Life is good, really.]
Luckily, there are enough of us here that we can still help each other. We may each have our own troubles, but there's no reason for any of us to have to shoulder our burdens alone.
That's true, isn't it? But I do wonder... Reyna-chan is always helping me, and I've seen her kindness to others, but who is it that you're relying on in these times? Is there anyone you trust in a place like this?
work ran into my knife... it ran into my knife ten times 🔪
I've been lucky - my partner is a pretty trustworthy guy, even if he is sort of grumpy.
[she and waver get along better than i thought they would and it's hilarious
and then, of course, there's nico - she's trusts him implicitly. but is that something she really wants to get into with eichi? it would inevitably lead into talking about why, and that's nico's story to tell, not hers. ...on the other hand, if eichi is looking for people who are trustworthy, there's no one better for her to suggest than nico.]
And... Nico di Angelo, he and I came from the same place. He's watching my back just like I'm watching his.
[He smiles, thinking on partners and names and faces. He's still trying to remember all the pairs, but he can look into that later. And he's certain he hasn't met Nico yet, really. Not enough to know he's trustworthy.
But he can group him and Reyna together, then. That's good knowledge.]
Natsuo-kun is someone with a heart so pure that it's impossible to misunderstand. He may be clumsy and loud, and dangerous in his own way, but I do trust him. Aside from that... Sanji-kun has done nothing but help me, and from the way that he speaks and acts, I trust him, as well.
[i mean, eichi does, apparently. /glances at this week's shield choice.....]
I see - those are good choices.
[She doesn't know Natsuo or Sanji well, herself - but neither of them has ever given her any reason to distrust them, either. Eichi could pick worse people to trust. There is a long, long list of people that would be worse for him to trust.]
I'm glad to hear that you think so, as well. [It's a relief, even if it's from someone he's still not sure he's read completely. He's always cautious, getting to know someone, and now it's life or death. It's natural, right?
Especially for someone weak like him.]
There are others who are close, if not there, but it feels more tense with each passing day.
It's only natural, after last week. [Someone died on a Thursday. The closer they get to next Thursday...] People can't help but wonder if they've put their trust in the wrong person, or if they should bother trusting anyone at all.
This game of the Crafters' - it thrives on that uncertainty.
...To be honest, sometimes I wonder how much Tiger-chan and Dragon-chan are forced into this. They addressed us as our hosts, but having strict rules for themselves as well has me curious, you know?
[Not that he trusts them or anything, he's just curious.]
Still, there's little to do about anything like that, I suppose.
