[That, uh. That definitely is a thing. Reyna can't claim to be all that surprised about the content of the memory (especially not after how he'd behaved after Ann had thrown him under the bus), though she sure is surprised about the memory showing itself to them. Is that the mask's power, or - something else?

He looks like he wants to run, so she starts to grab for his wrist to keep him from doing so. Her fingers brush against the mask as she does, though, and the next thing she knows they're sliding headlong into a scene that's just as unfortunately familiar to her as his memory is to him.

Battle rages at Fort Sumter.

Reyna watches her troops advance on the fort and on the flying ship she knows that the Greek demigods plan to use for their getaway. There's no reason for them to have lingered here for so long - so, why? One or more of them must not be there. She scans the crowds.

There's a flash of blonde curls. There, Reyna thinks, and follows her. Her dogs follow at her heels, glinting gold and silver in the light.

The blonde doesn't seem to notice her - not until she turns away from a cannon, stuffing something she'd retrieved from inside of it into her pack. Reyna raises a brow.

"Rushing off?" she inquires, and holds her javelin at the ready. Her dogs growl as the blonde girl scans her surroundings.

"Reyna," she begins, "what happened at Camp Jupiter was Gaea's fault. Eidolons, possessing spirits--"

"Save your explanations," Reyna interrupts. "You'll need them for the trial." Aurum and Argentum snarl and inch forward, closer to her, poised to spring. She recognizes the look on the other girl's face - calculating, not yet desperate, but getting there.

"If you let Gaea drive our camps apart," the blonde says, "the giants have already won. They'll destroy the Romans, the Greeks, the gods, the whole mortal world."

"Don't you think I know that?" Reyna's voice is hard. "What choice have you left me? Octavian smells blood. He's whipped the legion into a frenzy, and I can't stop it. Surrender to me. I'll bring you back to New Rome for trial. It won't be fair. You'll be painfully executed. But it may be enough to stop further violence. Octavian won't be satisfied, of course, but I think I can convince the others to stand down."

"It wasn't me!"

"It doesn't matter!" Reyna snaps. "Someone must pay for what happened. Let it be you. It's the better option."

The blonde looks as though she'll be sick, but she manages to speak. "Better than what?"

"Use that wisdom of yours," Reyna sighs. "If you escape today, we won't follow. I told you - not even a madman would cross the sea to the ancient lands. If Octavian can't have vengeance on your ship, he'll turn his attention to Camp Half-Blood. The legion will march on your territory. We will raze it and salt the earth."

...

And that's, uh. That's where the memory ends. Dimly, as Reyna contemplates the fact that they are both assholes, it registers on her that the iridescent sphere they've been trapped in is falling away.]

...Akechi.
